Apostille of Uruguayan Documents
Uruguayan accession to the Hague Apostille Convention: On October 14, 2012, Uruguay acceded to the Hague Apostille Convention. By doing so, the government of Uruguay has taken on the responsibility of certifying public documents issued by the government of Uruguay (for example, birth certificates) for use abroad. The United States recognizes this certification, called the apostille, as valid.
As such, it is no longer necessary to have a Uruguayan public document legalized by the Consular Section at our Embassy in order to use that document in the United States.
For more information on how to apostille a Uruguayan public document contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2902-1010) - Section: “Centro de Atención Ciudadana”.
