U.S. Citizen Services

U.S. Citizen Services Unit

The U.S. Citizen Services Unit of the United States Embassy in Uruguay provides assistance to U.S. citizens in Uruguay. U.S. citizens can apply for passports, register their children born outside the United States (in Uruguay), and ask for help in emergency cases. We also notarize documents for use in the United States. The Federal Benefits Unit assists the beneficiaries of Social Security and other Federal Agencies. The U.S. Consulate is located in the U.S. Embassy building.

An appointment is mandatory for all non-emergency citizen services (passports, visa pages, reports of birth abroad, notary services, etc), except Federal Benefits.

Appointments for passport services and reporting the birth of a U.S. citizen in Uruguay are available on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am. to 11:00 am.

Appointments for notary services are available on Tuesday from 2:00 pm. to 4:00 pm.

Federal Benefits beneficiaries may come in on Mondays from 9:00 to 11:00 am. or 2:00 to 4:00 pm. without an appointment, except on Uruguayan and U.S. public holidays.
