Students
at participating schools in Montevideo received certificates
for completing the course, “Nuestro Mundo”
(Our World), part of a program offered by the local affiliate
of Junior Achievement and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy.
DESEM Jovenes
Emprendedores, the local representative of Junior Achievement,
recruits volunteers to be instructors for this interactive
course, which teaches students about economics, business
and skills needed to achieve success in the future. More
than 20 volunteers have been giving the course at public
schools in Montevideo this year.
Assistant
Public Affairs Officer Melissa Martinez joined instructors
Javier Bogliaccini and Nicole Telias and program coordinator
Lucia Malian to congratulate the students in the sixth grade
of school No. 201 Maronas Tuesday (Dec. 2).
Students reported
that during the course they learned about the economy and
how to be educated consumers. They were encouraged to work
in groups, fostering teamwork and problem solving, while
discovering the world of international trade.
