The United States Department of Agriculture - Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) is conducting a routine audit of the Uruguayan Official Slaughter Inspection System of the Ministry of Livestock Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP). Dr. Farooq Ahmad, FSIS Senior Program Auditor and Dr. Manzoor Chaudry, FSIS Chief of International Audit Staff will be in charge of the audit.

The previous audit, conducted by the FSIS in March 2005, concluded with no-significant observations. At that time only minor observations were reported, and even a few extra plants were added to the list of approved facilities to export to the U.S.

During this audit, 13 plants out of the 23 authorized to export to the U.S. will be visited from November 17 to December 20, 2005. The Final Conference for presenting the audit report will be on December 22, 2005.
