The U.S. Embassy Montevideo sponsored
the New York based modern dance troupe, Full Fat Dance, to
perform at an international dance festival in Montevideo.
The Festival Montevideo Sitiada took place November
11-21, 2005.
For this festival, Full Fat Dance artistic
directors Jeremy Nelson and Luis Lara Malvacias presented
works for 7 dancers, culminating their visit with a
performance at Montevideo's Teatro Sodre on November
18, receiving excellent reviews. Uruguayan audiences are
very discriminating and recognize only first-rate artistic
presentations.
Besides this company from the United
States, dance ensembles from many countries, including Venezuela,
Spain, France, Austria, Slovenia, Kenya, and Nigeria made
appearances at the festival. While in Montevideo, Nelson
and Lara Malvacias conducted a three-day workshop for dancers
from studios and schools throughout Uruguay. These young
dancers had nothing but praise for the duo's innovative
training methods.
