On 19 Nov,
the National Emergency System of Uruguay and the Office
of Defense Cooperation from the US Embassy Montevideo concluded
the second of two Crisis Management workshops. Experts from
the US Southern Command
Humanitarian Assistance Office presented the workshop to
key leaders of twelve departments in the interior of Uruguay.
The first workshop, held Nov. 12-14 in Salto, was for the
northern departments while the second, held Nov. 17-19 in
Palmar, was for the western departments. The focus of the
workshop was to facilitate inter-agency coordination for
each Intendencia and help those leaders develop their own
crisis management procedures. Follow-up workshops are tentatively
planned next year for the eastern departments and for Montevideo.
