
Terrorism Expert Ed Rowe
Terrorism expert Ed Rowe spoke at Uruguay's
Centro de Altos Estudios Nacionales, or C.A.L.E.N. (Center
for Strategic Studies) on Monday, Nov. 3. His presentation,
"The Department of Defense Role in Combating Terrorism,"
won accolades from attendees at C.A.L.E.N.'s conference
on national security.
Rowe is an Assisant for Policy Coordination in the office
of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special
Operations and Combating Terrorism. His office advises the
Secretary of Defense and develops Department of Defense
policy in matters related to terrorism and special operations
policy. A retired US Army colonel, Rowe has worked in Department
of Defense offices dealing with terrorism policy for more
than fifteen years.
Rowe traced the history and development of terrorism, discussed
how Sept. 11, 2001, changed the U.S. Government's approach
to the problem, and described the manner in which the various
U.S. Government agencies coordinate to combat terrorism.
C.A.L.E.N. is an Uruguayan defense college which trains
senior military officers and civilians from the government,
legislature, and other professions in strategic studies
and national defense matters.
