Stephen Jordan at the working breakfast with Uruguayan business
representatives.
During a working
breakfast with Uruguayan businessmen, U.S. specialist Stephen
Jordan said there has been a profound change in the way
ethics and transparency are valued in their relationship
to business management.
Jordan referred to the lessons
learned by different companies and emphasized that a business
which considers ethics and transparency as their most important
challenge, will get ahead.
Using ENRON as an example,
he noted how the lack of ethics in this and other companies
affected the whole U.S. economy. He added that ethics, confidence,
honesty and integrity are the basic virtues necessary for
any company to become prosperous.
The breakfast was organized
by the U.S. Embassy, the American Chamber of Commerce in
Uruguay and DERES (Development of Social Responsibility),
with support from the Abal Hermanos, SA, Banco Santander,
Ferrere Abogados and SUAT.
Jordan has been vice president
and executive director of the Center for Corporate Citizenship
of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce since its creation in May
2002. He works with a large spectrum of companies and chambers
of commerce in the United States and abroad.
Jordan has conducted numerous
conferences, working with the formulation and implementation
of policies and projects in the field of corporate citizenship
in the business community and in public and private associations.
