Mrs. Audrey Silverstein,
wife of Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein, hosted a tea at
her residence Tuesday (Oct. 28), to garner support for this
year’s AUPI fair, an international event that raises
thousands of dollars for the organization each year.
AUPI (the Uruguayan Association
for the Protection of Children) is planning this year’s
fair for Dec. 13 and 14 at LATU. The U.S. Embassy will have
a booth at the fair as in previous years, selling products
from the United States.
Spouses of ambassadors of
many of the countries represented in Uruguay and AUPI organizers
attended the tea. Mrs. Silverstein said she brought the
group together to “encourage as many people as possible
to work with AUPI so that the fair will be as successful
as ever.”
“For that, we need everyone’s
support,” she said. “AUPI is a very strong and
very important organization that does a lot for a great
number of needy children.”
Last year, 15 countries participated
in the fair, selling their traditional food, crafts and
other goods. This year the AUPI fair organizers hope to
increase the number of participants, as well as fair visitors.
As in the past, this year’s
fair will include ongoing performances by groups representing
the different countries. New this year will be the addition
of a children’s craft area.
