A group of Uruguayan journalists had
the chance to cover New York’s emotive 2nd anniversary
commemoration of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade
Center.
The trip was organized
by the Embassy of the United States in Montevideo in coordination
with the US Department of State Foreign Press Centers in
Washington and New York to demonstrate to the foreign journalists
how the media and military interact in the United States.
As part of their visit to Washington and
New York, six media representatives from Uruguay had the
opportunity to share – with press from around the
world – coverage of an event that paralyzed the city
of New York for several hours.
From the 10th floor of Two World Financial
Center, Church St., the journalists shared facilities with
members of international television networks, print and
broadcast media.
Prior to the ceremony opening, the journalists
interviewed N.Y. Governor George Pataki, New Jersey Governor
James McGreevey, N.Y. Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Senator
Hillary Clinton during the officials’ visit to the
Press Center.
All of the Uruguayan journalists said it
was a great opportunity to attend and report on such a special
occasion.
The Uruguayan delegation, which also
included the press directors of the Ministry of Defense,
Army, Navy and Air Force, concluded the program with a visit
and a series of interviews at the UN headquarters.
During the visit to the Heritage Foundation, the visitors
discuss with Steve Johnson US policies toward Latin
America in general and Uruguay in particular.
Richard Araujo, Director of VOA
Spanish Branch, explains the role of Voice of America
as an official radio and TV station.
