Economist Richard Stein holds two conferences on“Enterprises,
Technology Commercialization and Industrial Development”
and “Lessons Learned in the Entrepreneurial Economy:
What Works and What Doesn't?”

The US Embassy organized two conferences with Richard Stein
on “Enterprises, Technology Commercialization and
Industrial Development” and “Lessons Learned
in the Entrepreneurial Economy: What Works and What Doesn't?”
on Aug. 26 and 27.
More than 70 people from the private and public sectors
attended both events. The conferences were illustrated by
several practical cases and followed by challenging Q&A
sessions.
During the “Enterprises, Technology Commercialization
and Industrial Development” conference, which was
held at the Sheraton Hotel, Stein addressed several factors
that are key to the successful commercialization of high
tech. He also elaborated on fundamentals of industrial development,
such as an effective linkage between the private, academic
and government sectors and the development of industrial
clusters.
The “Lessons Learned” conference, held at the
Radisson Victoria Hotel and co-sponsored by Endeavor Uruguay,
focused on the common traits of the successful entrepreneurial
mindset, the stages and dynamics of the firms’ business
life cycles, the importance of networking and the co-opetition
concept (cooperation and competition among private firms).
Stein holds degrees from the Wharton School of Business
of the University of Pennsylvania, and the London School
of Economics. Prior to founding KLIOS, Inc in 2000, he was
vice president for research at Ben Franklin Technology Partners
of Southeastern Pennsylvania; vice president and Economist
- CoreStates Financial Corp (now Wachovia Corp) and senior
economist and consulting manager at Wharton Econometric
Forecasting Associates. Stein has broad management and leadership
experience in a wide range of industries and technologies,
including quantitative decision support, entrepreneurial
business strategy and economic and policy analysis. He has
been actively involved in the marketing strategy and the
development/commercialization of technology and new products.
Stein has also worked in the venture capital community;
banking, environmental, life sciences and transportation
sectors.
