The
Forum of Mercosur Women is a non-profit organization. Founded
in November 1995 in Buenos Aires, it comprises women from
political, business, labor union, education and cultural
sectors. Its goal is to promote the participation and contribution
of women in Mercosur's development.
The Forum, held August 8-9 at the Radisson
Plaza Hotel, was opened by Uruguayan Foreign Affairs Minister,
Dr. Didier Opertti and was attended by high ranking local
government officials as well as official representatives
of the four countries of Mercosur, members of professional
and business women's organizations, non-governmental organizations
dealing with women's issues, political women's networks
and several members of diplomatic missions assigned to the
country.
Griffith participated
in a round-table discussion on FTAA. Joining him were Stella
Zervoudaky, European Union Ambassador, Agustín Espinosa,
Uruguayan LAIA and Mercosur representative, and Amb. Laura
Velázquez, Special International Representative for
Women's Issues of Argentina.
