More than 1,000 people
attended the Youth Orchestra of the Americas (YOA) performance
in the Cine Teatro Plaza Aug. 4.
The YOA is a world-class symphony orchestra
and a multicultural initiative comprised of 111 young musicians
representing countries of the Western Hemisphere. The orchestra
includes three musicians from Uruguay and 32 from the United
States, including the conductor.
The mission of the YOA is to bring together the finest young
musicians representing the Americas and create an orchestra
of the highest artistic standards. The program provides
a unique opportunity to strengthen ties between the continents
of the Americas, particularly among youth, and highlight
the value of music education and cultural interaction.
The Montevideo tour was organized by
the Centro Cultural de Música. The concert, here,
was sponsored by the Deutsche Bank and co-sponsored by the
Embassy of the United States in Montevideo.
After the concert the young musicians
attended a dinner in their honor at La Casa Violeta. The
group had an opportunity to interact with sponsors and organizers
of the event and celebrate a successful performance.
