As part of a busy schedule which included meetings with Uruguay's newly elected President Tabare Vazquez and outgoing President Jorge Batlle, the U.S. Presidential delegation headed by Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao met yesterday with leaders of key Uruguayan ministries involved in trade and local employers to talk about the importance of free trade, protecting workers and creating jobs.

Secretary Chao's delegation included philanthropist Marilyn Ware, Jeff Eubank, Deputy Director of Protocol, Laura Genero, Associate Deputy Secretary, and Rush Baker from the State Department Office of Protocol. They were accompanied by representatives from the U.S. Embassy Montevideo, Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein, Deputy Chief of Mission Jim Williard, Economic Officer James Perez, Agriculture Attaché Teresa Boyle, and Control Officer Mary Fisk-Telchi.

Attending the meeting were Uruguay's Ambassador designate to the U.S., Carlos Gianelli; the new Minister of Industry and Mining and past president of the Uruguayan-American Chamber of Commerce, Jorge Lepra; the outgoing Minister of Agriculture and alternate Senator in the new administration, Martin Aguirrezabala; the President of the Uruguayan Exporters' Association, Daniel Soloducho; and the President of the National Chamber of Commerce, Jose Luis Puig.
