U.S. Embassy Renewal Effort Inaugurated
June 24, 2003
ESPAÑOL

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on June 24, 2003 to mark the official inauguration of the U.S. Government-sponsored renewal effort of the park grounds adjacent to the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo. The project involved the development of green space and lighted pathways that make up a two-block radius. The layout of the park not only turns this section of Montevideo’s famous seaside boulevard known as ‘the Rambla’ into an attractive neighborhood park area, but also provides additional security to the Embassy and its neighbors. The million-dollar project was completed in seven months by Uruguayan engineers and craftsmen and was based on a design by well-known Uruguayan Architect Fernando Fabiano, who was selected to design the park after winning a competition held among Uruguayan architects. The project contractor is Stiller, S.A.
