President Batlle Awards Uruguay's Top Medal to U.S. Ambassador Silverstein

Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein is the first American citizen and first U.S. Ambassador to be awarded the "Medalla de la Republica Oriental del Uruguay"

The Uruguayan Government's distinguished "Medalla de la Republica Oriental del Uruguay" will be bestowed by His Excellency Dr. Jorge Batlle Ibáñez upon The Honorable Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein, in recognition of his "intense and enthusiastic work towards developing stronger relations between Uruguay and the United States", announced a government decree released Thursday.

This is the only medal authorized by the Uruguayan Legislature to be awarded to foreigners. Ambassador Silverstein is the first American citizen and first United States Ambassador to be decorated with this medal.

The ceremony will take place at the Presidency's "Edificio Independencia" on Thursday, December 2nd, at 6 pm.
