Political/Economic
Counselor Oliver Griffith visited the Rivera office of the
Direccion General de Represion del Trafico Ilicito de Drogas
(DGRTID) last Friday, to exchange views on drug interdiction
in Uruguay and to inspect U.S. donated equipment.
He held a roundtable discussion with office
director Comisario Manuel Sosa and his staff of six officers,
who briefed him on some of the problems they confront in
halting the flow of drugs into Uruguay.
The officers have been making excellent
use of Embassy donated equipment such as radios and equipment
to probe for drugs in luggage and packages.
