Sixth graders at Montevideo's public school No.201 hold up their certificates as they celebrate the completion of their Junior Achievement program courses, November 7, 2006.

The U.S. Embassy Montevideo sponsors DESEM-Junior Achievement courses in 10 Uruguayan public schools. The program is designed to teach and inspire elementary school children to value enterprise, business and economics, in order to improve the quality of their lives.

DESEM-Junior Achievement courses teach children the basic concepts of business and the global economy as well as how to manage their personal finaces and become educated consumers. The program involves hundreds of Uruguayan school children and is targeted towards lower income students at the age they are most likely to drop out of school.

Earlier this week, public school No.178 'Martin Luther King' also celebrated the success of DESEM's Junior Achievement courses. (See related item.)
