Fifth graders at Montevideo's public school No.178 'Martin Luther King' hold up their course certificates upon completing the Junior Achievement program "Our World", November 6, 2006.

The U.S. Embassy Montevideo sponsors DESEM-Junior Achievement courses in 10 Uruguayan public schools. The program is designed to teach and inspire elementary school children to value enterprise, business and economics, in order to improve the quality of their lives.

The "Our World" program teaches children the basic concepts of business and the global economy. DESEM-Junior Achievement courses are targeted towards lower income students at the age they are most likely to drop out of school. They involve hundreds of Uruguayan school children.

Last month two other public schools celebrated the success of DESEM's Junior Achievement courses. (See related item.)
