Fifth graders at Montevideo's
public school No.70 hold up their diplomas upon completing
a pilot DESEM-Junior Achievement program introduced
at their school nearly 5 weeks ago. (See related
item.)
The U.S. Embassy Montevideo sponsors
DESEM-Junior Achievement courses in 10 Uruguayan
public schools. The program is designed to teach and inspire elementary school children to value enterprise, business and economics, in order to improve the quality of their lives.
The students showed enormous enthusiasm for the course, as they were able to readily
recite facts about trade and global economy and
how to be educated consumers.
Public Affairs officer Thomas Hamm and other U.S. Embassy staff attended the closing event, October 20, 2006 and helped present each of the children with a diploma. |
