Winners of the journalism contest
sponsored by the Uruguayan House of Representatives and the
U.S. Embassy in Montevideo were announced today at an awards
ceremony held in Palacio Legislativo.
Fabian Werner Vescia from Semanario
Brecha and Mauricio Rabuffetti from Radio El Espectador,
each received a prize consisting of a one-week trip to Washington
and New York.
The contest was designed to promote excellence
in journalism and to reward outstanding professionals in
this field. Contestants were required to submit an essay
analizing the political and electoral processes in Uruguay
and the Unites States.
While in the U.S., the journalists will
visit a variety of political, cultural, and economic institutions,
and will also have the opportunity to interview several
representatives from private and public organizations.
