Winners of the journalism contest sponsored by the Uruguayan House of Representatives and the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo were announced today at an awards ceremony held in Palacio Legislativo.

Fabian Werner Vescia from Semanario Brecha and Mauricio Rabuffetti from Radio El Espectador, each received a prize consisting of a one-week trip to Washington and New York.

The contest was designed to promote excellence in journalism and to reward outstanding professionals in this field. Contestants were required to submit an essay analizing the political and electoral processes in Uruguay and the Unites States.

While in the U.S., the journalists will visit a variety of political, cultural, and economic institutions, and will also have the opportunity to interview several representatives from private and public organizations.
