Chef
Oswaldo Ceccenello said he reached back into his youth to
bring some of his favorite Cajun-style dishes to Uruguay.
“When I was about 10
to 15 years old, I had friends who were from Louisiana and
Texas who introduced me to Cajun and southern foods,”
said Ceccenello, who traveled from the Westin Century Plaza
Hotel & Spa in Los Angeles, Calif., to be guest chef
at the Sheraton Hotel in Montevideo this week.
Ceccenello is preparing Louisiana-style
gumbo and crab cakes in addition to all time favorites BBQ
ribs, fried chicken and cheese cake during the Sheraton’s
American Food Festival which opens to the public tonight
and continue through Friday.
A reception was held on Friday
(Dec. 5) to introduce the chef and kick off the event, sponsored
by the U.S. Embassy, U.S. Department of Agriculture, American
Chamber of Commerce, American Airlines and Pagnifique.
Jorge Stein, manager of the
Sheraton Hotel, Montevideo, welcomed the crowd invited to
the reception. Robert Hoff, of the U.S. Department of Agriculture
office at the U.S. Embassy, Buenos Aires, said the food
festival is an important activity to promote food and beverages
of the United States.
James Williard, Deputy Chief
of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Montevideo, said, “The
Sheraton shares the diplomatic mission of the Embassy in
its intention, through this food festival, to enable the
Uruguayan public to experience the immense richness, in
quantity and quality, of our food in the U.S. Our Embassy
is very pleased and congratulates the initiative of the
Sheraton Hotel for having begun this series of international
festivals.”
