Journalist Juan Andrés
Elhordoy, of the Radio Sarandì program, "Cierra
de Jornada," was chosen winner of "Quality in
Economic Information," a contest for economic journalists,
organized by the Interamerican Association
of Economic Journalists (AIPEF), Uruguayan chapter.
and sponsored by the U.S. Embassy, Montevideo.
Along with 17 colleagues from
around the world, Elhordoy will participate on full scholarship
in an international seminar on globalization that will be
held in March at Columbia University School of Journalism
in New York.
The award ceremony was held
Tuesday (Dec. 16) in Ibis Hotel in Montevideo. The ceremony
included the 13 contestants, contest judges, President of
the Central Bank Julio de Brun, and members of the bank's
board of directors, AIPEF officials and Assistant Public
Affairs Officer Melissa Martinez of the U.S. Embassy, who
awarded the prize.
The judges included economists
Fernando Antía and Máximo Rossi of the Universidad
de la República; director of the communications program
of the Universidad Católica, Mónica Arsuaga;
Virginia Silvia, Universidad ORT; Eileen Hudson, Universidad
de Montevideo; Martínez and President de AIPEF, Nelson
Fernández.
