DELIVERY OF MEDICAL SUPPLIES
TO THE HOSPITAL OF FLORIDA

From the U.S. Southern Command
Medical supplies worth $ 25,000, brought to Uruguay through
the Southern Command of the U.S. Department of Defense,
were delivered today to the Ministry of Public Hospital
in the city of Florida.
Delivery of the materials took place during a ceremony in
the capital city of the Department of Florida attended by
the director of specialized medical care units of ASSE,
Dr. Horacio Porciúncula, the director of the hospital,
Dr. Francisco Llanes, the advisor of the mayor of Florida,
Mr. Ricardo Shaw, and U.S. Embassy Attaché Jeff Vick.
These supplies were donated by the Southern Command of the
U.S. Department of Defense and consist, among other items,
in a colonocope worth $ 10.000 and a broad range of materials
and equipment for different medical specialties.
In December, 2002, U.S. Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein
delivered to the Uruguayan Ministry of Public Health medicine
and medical supplies worth $550.000, also donated by the
Southern Command of the U.S. Department of Defense.
In January of this year a supply of medical material was
delivered to the Central Hospital of the Armed Forces .
February 18 another donation was delivered to the Ministry
of Public Health and the University of the Republic under
the auspices of the Partners of the Americas and the U.S.
Embassy.
