Diapers and clothing were delivered Tuesday, Aug. 26, to an Uruguayan day care center for homeless women and children run by the Center for the Promotion of Human Dignity (Ce.Pro.Di.H), a local NGO.

The supplies were donated by the First Redeemer Church of Atlanta, Georgia, through Operation Mobilization (OM), an international Christian NGO that works in more than 90 countries. The US Embassy facilitated the port clearance process of the donation.

This delivery was made in a small ceremony attended by Mrs. Audrey Silverstein, wife of U.S. Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein, and Siegfried Klassen, Director of OM Uruguay. Staff from both the US Embassy and OM Uruguay were also present at the ceremony.

Mrs. Silverstein brought the women ' s center to the attention of the U.S. Embassy community after a visit with U.S. Undersecretary for Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky in January. Mr. Klassen, who had been in contact with the Embassy about incoming donations, was receptive to Ce.Pro.Di.H' s needs. He said he plans to offer more assistance in the future, as the center works to help these women become self-sufficient.

This much-needed delivery is another step in the series of donations already made by the American people to the Uruguayan community.
