DELIVERY OF SCHOOL SUPLIES TO A PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN MENDOZA CHICO AND THREE OTHER
LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN THE CITY OF FLORIDA
April 25, 2003

School supplies valued at US 18,000 were delivered on Friday, April 25, 2003 to a Uruguayan public elementary school, Tomas Carrero # 52. The school is located in Mendoza Chico in the city of Florida. The supplies were donated to the elementary school and four additional local public schools including an agricultural technical high school. They are being transported through the Southern Command of the U.S. Department of Defense.

A ceremony took place at the school at 10am, and was attended by Mayor Andrés Arocena, Representative Jaime Trobo, and the Director of the School, Rosario Cora. LTC Scott G. Messinger, Colonel Jerry Miller, and Political Attaché Oliver Griffith attended from the United States Embassy.

The school children participated in the ceremony singing Uruguay’s National Anthem and reciting poetry.

The shipment of supplies included student desks and chairs. The supplies were donated by the non-profit organization, The Convoy of Hope, based in Springfield, Missouri. The Admiral Denton’s Foundation, also a non-profit organization, funded the transportation costs of the school supplies.
