The Ambassador of the United States of America, along with high-ranking local and foreign dignitaries, participated in yesterday’s ceremonies commemorating the 179th anniversary of Uruguay’s Declaration of Independence.

As it is customary, the ceremony took place in Piedra Alta, the site where Uruguay’s independence was declared in 1825.

President Dr. Jorge Batlle and Foreign Relations Minister Didier Opertti spoke of Uruguay’s long-standing tradition of freedom and democracy.
