Jim
Nealon arrived in Montevideo on July 28, 2005 as the new
Deputy Chief of Mission, and assumed charge of the Embassy
until the arrival of Ambassador Frank E. Baxter on November
28, 2006.
Nealon has been in the Foreign Service since
1984, and has the personal rank of Minister Counselor. In
previous assignments he has served in public diplomacy positions
in Chile, Hungary (twice), the Philippines, Spain, and Washington,
D.C. He also served previously in Uruguay from 1986 to 1990.
He speaks Hungarian and Spanish.
Nealon, a native of Virginia, has a degree
in history from Brown University, and did graduate study,
also in history, at Boston College.
Nealon’s wife Kristin is a teacher.
They have four children.
