The student intern will gain experience in the following areas by assisting the Embassy's Website Manager and Staff Photographer in the Press and Cultural Section in:
- Assist in creating new content for the official
Embassy website and related social networking sites;
- Assist in reviewing, organizing and preparing existing
Embassy website content for migration to a Content
Management System;
- Assist in processing photographic material for printing,
distributing and filing (candidate will be required
to use Photoshop to crop, resize, enhance photos;
prepare and organize photo archives; may be required
to assist photographer in the taking of photographs.)
The internship will take place at the U.S. Embassy
building in Montevideo. Interns should be available
at least 4 hours per day, Monday through Friday. Embassy
work hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Intern's
schedule is somewhat flexible and will be arranged
according to the student's availability. The duration
of the volunteer internship will be from two to four
months depending on the hours worked per day.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- Currently enrolled in a local university, second
year level and above in the areas of Design and Technology,
Computers, Communications and Journalism, or related
areas. Students who will be graduating shortly may
not be qualified Recommendation letters from two professors
will be required.
- Knowledge of HTML markup language and basic understanding
of scripts such as Java;
- Advanced knowledge of digital photography and SLR
cameras;
- Excellent knowledge of Photoshop;
- Knowledge of English is an asset;
- Keen attention to detail;
- Must be creative, with a high degree of initiative
and motivation;
- Be able to work under certain pressure at times.
OTHER FORMAL REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEER INTERNSHIP:
1. Age: From 18 to 23 years old.
2. Citizenship: This opportunity is only
for non-U.S. citizen students. (U.S. citizens

3. Must be a student in good academic standing, provide
a certified transcript to verify and provide written
permission from the educational institution.
4. Medical Insurance: interested student must have
his/her own medical insurance.
5. Practical professional experience has to be a career
requirement.
6. Commitment to follow through with the internship
until its completion.
SELECTION PROCESS
All interested candidates who fulfill the requirements
explained above should send updated biographical data
sheet containing detailed information on studies,
past work experience (if any) and references to the
webmaster (WebmasterMVD@state.gov)
before August 29, 2008.
First screening of applicants will be done on bases
of the data provided. The best qualified candidates
will be called for an interview.
Once selected, the candidate will be subject to medical
and security checks before approval to participate
in the program.
