The
U.S. Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) is located in the
American Embassy. Its primary function is the implementation
of all U.S. military security assistance, exercise, exchange,
and humanitarian assistance efforts for the purpose of advancing
U.S. foreign policy objectives. These objectives include
the consolidation of democracy, enhancement of counter-narcotics
efforts, professionalism and modernization of the Urguayan
Armed Forces, promotion of civil-military relations, advancement
of U.S. - Uruguayan military-to-military relations, and
the cultivation of mutual understanding and democratic values.
The ODC performs liaison
duties with the Uruguayan Armed Forces, provides advice
on military matters to the U.S. Ambassador, and represents
the Secretary of Defense, the U.S. military services, and
the Commander of U.S. Southern Command in Uruguay.
Mission
responsibilities of the ODC include processing of all DOD
flight clearances, ship visits, and management of airport
support operations for all U.S. military flights in Uruguay.
