Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein presents the Legion of Merit award to General Tomas Medina for his service as Uruguayan Defense Attaché in the United States 2000-2002

Ambassador Martin J. Silverstein presents the Legion of Merit award to General Tomas Medina for General Medina's service as Uruguayan Defense Attaché in the United States 2000-2002. The Legion of Merit is the highest non-combat decoration that can be awarded to non-US military officers. General Medina's award was approved by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and former Secretary of the Army Thomas White for exceptionally meritorious service promoting bilateral interests. Minister of Defense Yamandu Fau attended the ceremony along with over 70 senior ranking Uruguayan military officers. General Medina, the Commander of Uruguayan Army Division III, hosted Ambassador Silverstein's visit to Division III headquarters during the Ambassador's visit to Tacuarembo in June 2002.
