On Monday, August 19, 2002, U.S. Ambassador
to Uruguay Martin J. Silverstein visited the city of Minas.
The United States diplomat was met by Lavalleja Mayor Esc.
Hermán Vergara with whom he discussed a wide array
of issues and interests directly related to the department
(state).
In addition, Ambassador Silverstein’s agenda included
visits to the public hospital, a public school, the binational
center (Alianza Cultural Uruguay-Estados Unidos), the Municipality’s
Cultural Center and a Vacation Park that belongs to the
state-owned Energy and Telecommunications Company. He also
met with the Chief of Army Division IV, General Roberto
Alvarez, and with the Chief of Police, José Ma. Pose.
Following these meetings he gave a press conference during
which he was asked about different bilateral issues between
the United States and Uruguay.
