What is a C-1 Visa?
Every resident citizen in Uruguay that is traveling to another
country and needs to go through the United States in transit needs
to present their valid visa to the Unites States before boarding
any commercial flights.
If said person has a Business/tourist visa (B-1/B-2), it is not
necessary to request a transit visa (C-1), because the visa type
B-1/B-2 allows you to travel to the United States in Transit.
Required Documentation:
1. A printed itinerary (Note that the possession of a ticket
is NOT a guarantee that a visa will be issued.
2. A visa or other documents that demonstrate that the applicant
will be allowed into the country of final destination.
3. General Application Documents
Important Notes:
• You are not required to spend the entire time in the transit
lounge. However, you must continue your journey within the time
specified by law.
• The Consular Officer will only issue a transit visa if
he/she is convinced that the traveler is only traveling to the
United States in transit to another destination.
• The same laws and restrictions concerning sufficient
funds and the need to prove the existence of an overseas residence
to which the traveler will be compelled to return to Uruguay,
needs to be presented to the consular officer when applying for
transit visas as well as for any other non-immigrant visa.
