INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO APPLY FOR A NON-IMMIGRANT VISA

1. Schedule an interview appointment through our Visas Information Call Center at 000-4054-064, Mondays through Fridays from 9:00 to 19:00 hours (except Uruguayan holidays). To access the Visas Information Call Center, you have to buy a PIN number in any of the Abitab locations. You will be able to schedule an interview appointment for yourself and up to four immediate relatives who live in the same household, with the same PIN. The PIN can be used for several calls up to eight minutes, is valid for one year and non-refundable.

Applicants currently in the United States, can call the Service as well as, family members and associates in the United States can call the Service from anywhere in the U.S., toll-free at 1-866-381-5410 on behalf of the applicant in Uruguay. When you call, you will need to purchase a PIN using your Visa or MasterCard for US$16.

2. You must pay the 2,620 Uruguayan pesos machine readable visa processing fee in any office branch of Indumex (Rincón 473 Tres Cruces Shopping or Portones Shopping). After you pay the MRV (Machine readable visa) fee, Indumex will provide you with a receipt that you must present at the visa interview. This fee is non refundable.

Documents required for the Interview:

Valid passport, with at least six months validity at the time of your visa interview in the Consulate. The Consular Section recommends that every parent who has children included in their own passport, apply for an individual passport and visa for each family member;
Identity card (or another proof of identity with a photography);
Proof of payment of the visa processing fee from Indumex. The 2,620 Uruguayan pesos machine readable visa processing fee should be paid at any branch office of Indumex (Rincón 473, Tres Cruces Shopping or Portones Shopping). Please, bring the Indumex receipt to the visa interview. The visa processing fee is non-refundable;
One photograph size 5x5 cm., taken within the last six months, in color, facing forward, with a white background. Face the camera directly and expose your ears. The face should be completely visible, without hair covering it, especially the forehead which should be completely visible. The face should cover 50% of the photograph space. If you use glasses, please remove them. Your head must be uncovered. Babies must have their eyes opened. Please paste the photograph on the lower right corner of the DS-156 form. The photo should be crisp with good contrast;
Marriage Certificate and spouse's ID if your are married;
Birth certificate of your minor child/children or marriage book with your child/children registered in it;
Forms: All visa applicants without exception must complete form DS-156 electronically through our web page, print it with a good quality laser printer, sign it, and bring it on the day of the visa interview. If you fail to do so, you will have to re-schedule your interview appointment through our Visas Information Call Center. Men between the ages of 16 to 45 must also complete form DS-157.

EXAMPLES of documents that may be helpful to demonstrate your economic solvency and ties to your country of residency: (the interviewing Consular Officer may not need to see such documents; nevertheless, you should have them available.)

• LETTER OF EMPLOYMENT: include your salary, length of service, job position, and recent pay receipts;
• IF YOU HAVE A BUSINESS: bring your BPS and DGI payment receipts and other registration documents (planilla de trabajo) etc.;
• IF YOU ARE A LANDOWNER: BPS payment receipts and DICOSE statements;
• IF YOU ARE A UNIVERSITY STUDENT: bring your registration payment receipt, updated transcripts, letters of acceptance, etc.;
• TITLES OF PROPERTY: leases, proof that you property, car registration;
• BANK ACCOUNT SUMMARY: transaction statements;
• CREDIT CARD SUMMARIES;
• RETIREMENT RECEIPTS AND/OR PENSION: if you are retired and/or receive a pension.

Consular Officers prefer to see original documents such as proof of payments receipts, property titles, etc. The Consular Officer will tell you if your visa has been approved or refused at the end of your interview. If approved, we will hold your passport to place the visa inside. Passports with visas are normally delivered in two working days to Consorcio Postal (1502 Miguelete Street, on the corner of Piedra Alta). There is a 15 Uruguayan pesos charge that you have to pay when picking up each passport with a visa at Consorcio Postal.

Please be advised that an invitation letter sent by a relative or friend in the United States is not sufficient to grant a visa. Each visa applicant must qualify on their own merits.
