If your “green card” card is lost
or stolen you should report this with the local police authorities.
Under certain circumstances, you may be able to obtain a Transportation
Letter to allow you to travel to the U.S. In order to request
such service you should come in any Tuesday or Thursday (except
on holidays) between 2:00 and 4:00 pm with your valid and expired
passports and all available evidence of your LPR status and that
you have not been away from the U.S. for more than 364 days by
the time you will return.
If you meet the requirements and DHS approves
it, a transportation letter may be issued to allow you to travel
within the authorized period. The verification and processing
of this document might take a few days, and will probably not
be ready on the same date. Processing fees for such service are
$165.00. Transportation letters are valid for a maximum of 30
days. Please keep in mind that fees will not be reimbursed, even
if issuance of letter is not approved.
