On World Environment Day, June 5, 2009 the U.S. Embassy Montevideo
launched an online video competition engaging young people
across Uruguay in a dialogue on climate change and ways to
protect the environment.
Contestants were asked to produce a short video of no more
than three minutes and post it directly to the embassy's
Facebook site. The winning video was selected among 11
finalists by an independent jury co-chaired by Sebastián
Orlando (creative partner of the Uruguayan ad agency Gurisa),
Ivan Ibarra (production advisor for Channel 5 National Televison)
and Rubek Orlando (media specialist for the U.S. Embassy
Montevideo).
The winning entry was submitted by students of the Cuna
de Fabini high school in Solis de Mataojo, a small town
situated approximately 50 miles northeast of Montevideo.
As a prize, the production team will receive a high-definition
digital video camera. They will also be invited to meet
with U.S. Chargé D'Affaires Robin Matthewman, and
appear on national television for an interview with Channel
5's Ivan Ibarra.
