December 10 marks the 60th anniversary of the U.N.'s adoption
of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the first
global expression of inherent rights. Since its adoption,
the declaration has taken on the force of international
law, and yet human rights violations are still widespread.
How can the average person make a difference in the human
rights movement? Join us on December 11 at 9 a.m. EST (14:00
GMT), after our global forum, as we talk with Professor
Bert Lockwood, a leading human rights scholar and lawyer.
Bert Lockwood is a distinguished professor of law at the
University of Cincinnati and director of the university's
Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights. For 26 years he
has been the series editor of Human Rights Quarterly, a
widely recognized academic journal that is a leading resource
on human rights. He has been program director for the World
Peace Through Law Center, an associate dean at American
University and assistant director for international studies
at New York University. He serves on the board of directors
of Amnesty International and on the advisory boards of several
other human rights groups.
