Fulbright Teaching Assistants Gather for Regional Seminar

43 program participants meet in Montevideo, July 6-11

English teaching assistants working in Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Uruguay pictured above during a reception hosted by U.S. Ambassador Frank E. Baxter, July 7, 2008 are in Montevideo to take part in the Fulbright ETA Regional Enhancement Seminar. Ambassador Baxter praised the work of these graduating seniors and graduate students from major U.S. universities. Teaching assistants provide support to Uruguayan English teachers through native speaker presence in classrooms and by creating activities to encourage students to communicate in English. They also share American culture and way of life with the students, and give presentations on different topics related to the United States.

43 English Teaching Assistants (ETA) from around the Southern Cone are meeting in Montevideo for a conference on teaching and community projects. Fulbrighters from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Uruguay gathered for the "Regional Enhancement Seminar for U.S. Teaching Assistants" to discuss different aspects of their tenure as language instructors.
