Ambassador Baxter Visits Site For New Airport Facility in Montevideo

The US$134 million dollar terminal will be completed by year-end 2008

U.S. Ambassador Frank E. Baxter and Deputy Chief of Mission Robin Matthewman observe as project manager and engineer Mario Di Marco points to describe the progress made in the construction of the new airport terminal for the city of Montevideo. Construction of the facility designed by Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly began in February 2007. The terminal is scheduled to open in late 2008. Rafael Viñoly Architects PC is a critically acclaimed international practice headquartered in New York, with affiliate offices in London and Los Angeles.

Montevideo's new "Aeropuerto Internacional de Carrasco" as it will look upon completion. The modern 45,000 square meter facility is expected to serve more than 2.5 million passengers per year.
