President Roosevelt in the port of Montevideo, accompanied by the President of Uruguay, Dr. Gabriel Terra.
ROOSEVELT
The visit of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt
to the Capitols of the Rio de la Plata was prompted by the
signing of the Chaco Peace Treaty. This was an event of
monumental importance for the international relations between
the American states.
President Roosevelt, the originator and
leader of the Good Neighbor Policy, personally demonstrated
with this trip the meaning of this policy. Beside the cordial
aspects of the trip, the presence of Roosevelt emphasized
the durable meaning of the moral values upon which the unity
of the American Republics is founded.
This noble gesture by the North American
leader found in Uruguay a real desire to warmly welcome
the visit of this great friend of democracy.
His motorcade through Montevideo ignited
the enthusiasm of an entire country who knew how to render
to him the kind of vibrant and warm tribute reserved for
great men like Roosevelt.

A huge crowd gathers at the port of Montevideo to warmly greet President Roosevelt.
President Roosevelt is acclaimed by the crowd in the port.
The two presidents leave the private residence of President Terra, accompanied by their sons, Cap. Roosevelt and Dr. Gabriel Terra Ilarraz, to view the military parade in honor of Roosevelt.
