U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao
visited Uruguay to meet with senior political, business, and
civil society leaders. The December 10-12 visit aims at building
on the good will and people-to-people linkages she helped
foster during her visit to Uruguay in 2005, for the inauguration
of President Tabare Vazquez. (See related

Upon her arrival, Secretary Chao met with
her counterpart, Minister of Labor Eduardo Bonomi, and later
met with the Minister of Industry Jorge Lepra. She also
met with business executives at a breakfast sponsored by
the Uruguay-USA Chamber of Commerce, and held a press conference

Secretary Chao also visited the Zonamerica
free trade zone industrial center and the Ingenio business incubator
unit at the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU) where she observed the development of Uruguay’s animation technology and the One Laptop per Child facility.
