The DESEM/Junior Achievement organization,
with the support of the U.S. Embassy Montevideo, sponsored
the “The Advantages of Staying in School” program,
designed for sixth graders. The program was created in response
to the need to affirm the relation between education and
the ability to get a better job. The goal of the program
was to raise student’s awareness of the role of education
as a tool for personal development and realizing one’s
potential. In addition, the program instructed students
on issues of personal economics, such as personal budgeting,
the idea of savings and planning.
The education programs of DESEM are intended
to compliment the school curriculum and the primary and
secondary level with concepts related to business and economics.
