U.S. Ambassador Frank E. Baxter, fifth from the right, joins UNICEF and other volunteers at Soriano during part of the 1,000 km. horseback ride organized by UNICEF to raise awareness about the problems children living in rural areas face and addressing possible solutions. The four-week long ride across the country began in Bella Union and will end in Montevideo. Participants are visiting rural schools along the way, talking with children and their teachers, parents and caretakers about children's dreams and aspirations. Through this innovative approach to collecting first-hand information on the reality of children and adolescents, organizers will be able to highlight some of the key problems they face, progress made and issues still needing to be addressed as per the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
