Silver Bowl I [Photo © UFL]On Sunday, October 7 Uruguay ’s national football team Charruas, will face Argentina's Halcones for the third edition of the Silver Bowl American Football championship.

Uruguay has won the past two editions of this international event, 24-0 the first year in Montevideo (see related article) and 6-7 last year in Buenos Aires.

Since these two consecutive international victories, Uruguay's supremacy has remained intact. The team is now gearing up for a third victory in order to retain the event trophy and become the most powerful American Football team in South America.

Two of the players on Uruguay's team, Marquis Williams (RB/S Maryland) and Jonathan Johnston (QB Texas), are part of the U.S. Embassy staff in Montevideo. Both have been actively involved with the team since training began several months ago, and are looking forward to competing internationally for Uruguay.

Kick-off time is 10:00 AM at the stadium of the “Escuela de Educación Física y Tiro del Ejército”, located on Bvar. Artigas, across the street from TV Channel 5. Event organizers from the Uruguay Football League (UFL) would like to invite everyone to be there for the 9:00 AM event presentation featuring music, game commentators, cheerleaders, teams entering the field with fireworks, national anthems and more.

Admission is FREE. The UFL encourages everyone to bring a 1kg non-perishable food item for the children and families of various poor neighborhoods in Montevideo.

Subway Restaurants, through its franchise in Uruguay, is the main sponsor of the Charruas and the UFL. The continued support of Alvaro Banchero and his staff is making this event possible and contributing toward the development of American Football in Uruguay.
