Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Nicholas R. Burns, visited Uruguay on July 10-11 where he was joined by Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Thomas Shannon.

The visit follows a trip by President Bush and Secretary Rice to Latin America in March. Uruguay is a valued partner of the United States and both countries look forward to continued work in consolidating democracy, promoting prosperity, and making sure that economic growth improves the lives of all citizens of the Americas.
