As Ambassador
of the United States of America in Uruguay, I am pleased
to announce that the United States will donate fifty thousand
dollars ($50,000) to help the victims of the flooding that
has affected several regions of Uruguay.
We hope that this assistance
will help alleviate the suffering of the thousands of people
who have had to evacuate their homes. We have been very
moved by what we have seen in the news and we want these
families to know that we want to help.
I am very pleased that
we can reciprocate the kind assistance that the Government
of Uruguay offered to the people of the United States after
Hurricane Katrina.
This is the second time
in recent years that my country has provided this type of
disaster assistance. The first time was in August of 2005,
after the terrible windstorm that caused enormous destruction
in various areas of Uruguay.
My country is always ready
to help the Uruguayan people.
